When considering the scope of your bathroom remodel, the first step is to determine your target budget range. You will need to have an overall budget consisting of two parts; the remodel portion and the finish material portion.

Timeline for Your Remodel

The Pareto Principle, commonly referred to as the 80/20 principle, applies to the bathroom remodel timeline. Sometimes it's 70/30 or 60/40 but the principle is plain to see on every job. The majority of the bathroom remodeling work is complete in a smaller portion of time, and the smaller percentage of work, like very detail oriented or labor intensive trades.

A great example of this is the first two weeks of your remodel contrasted by the last two weeks. The first 10 business days of your bathroom remodel will include demolition, clean up, framing, rough plumbing waterproofing, rough electrical and usually drywall.

A lot of work gets accomplished in the middle including the most time-consuming trade of them all; tile. But just when the bathroom looks like it's ready for finishing touches and nearly ready, the custom glass shower glass measurements will be taken.

The next ten business days, you'll be waiting for the ordering of the glass, fabrication, delivery & installation. Notice "how much was accomplished" is different but it's just the way the process goes.

Home owner wants a remodel. Home owner starts asking around. Home owner finds someone who does something in construction and the opinion-gathering begins.

It's a normal experience to start research through organic methods like asking friends, coworkers or neighbors. But it is also considered "normal" to have delays, change orders, and project timelines that just don't work out.

For winter/spring remodels, here are a few things to consider.

Lead time on material is beyond our control, so of course these estimates are really really approximate.

Small to medium Cardiff kitchen remodels including 10x10 kitchens, 10x12 kitchens, 12x15, the demolition to finishing touches portion of that for months may be 8 to 16 weeks.

2. Tile Selections for Your Cardiff Kitchen

If we're talking tile quality, look for

Good - ceramic. Ceramic tiles are basically baked clay, they chip easily because they are brittle. Not a good durable option. Flippers use ceramic tile often because of the attractive price point.

Better - Porcelain. Porcelain is probably the 80% of the 80/20 rule. Most families can find a wonderful porcelain tile option most of the time.

Brand/origin advice: The best porcelain in the world comes out of Italy. The second best comes out of Spain. If you buy from either of these places, you've got a pretty good shot at really liking your tile.

Best - stone. Of course, real stone will be the most durable but it also comes with a cost that reflects that durability. The cost of mining, manufacturing, cutting, and sanding to the desired finish is high. Some stone tiles can cost $150 per square foot, and many most more than that.

You may think that durability is the primary concern when looking at tile options, but unfortunately you need to worry about uniformity too.

There are knock-off versions of every product known to man but the devil is in the details. If you hire the BEST tile setter in the state and give him a box of cheap tile, you may have to:

Throw away up to 50% of the tile before use

Spend extra labor to trim tile that is not uniform

End up with asymmetrical tile lay patterns after all that extra headache.

You're buying tile so infrequently anyway...save yourself! Buy once, buy right.

The following holidays are not business days, so manufacturers, venders, and suppliers will be closed.

Thanksgiving - November 26th
Black Friday - November 27th
Christmas Eve - Thursday, December 24th

News Years Eve - Thursday, December 31st
New Years Day - Friday, January 1st

Hopefully this list helps, because it will affect production in two ways. There are six fewer business days in this next season, so we loose one week there.

But, momentum matters and three of six weeks are three day work weeks instead of five day work weeks.

Therefore momentum will be negatively affected for all the players on the team. This is beautiful and necessary for enjoying the holidays and our families.

Ensure you take this into account and add another two+ weeks to your project schedule if it stratals the holiday season.

Understand The Materials Delivery Protocols

Materials are in stock in some cases, but are back ordered in other cases.

The goal is to keep the project going once it is started. When we can wait until we have all products on hand before starting, we will have a great time getting your project complted on time with no breaks.

The thing to be on the lookout for is when a contractor wants to get started ASAP, then play it by ear...no! This will not end well.
